NTRODUCTION AND SCHEME OF EXAMINATION Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main).

The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs. The States of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system.

Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) - 2018 application form online. 2. ABOUT JEE (Main)–2018

2.1 Mode of Examination The Paper-1 (B.E./B. Tech.) (described below) of JEE(Main)will be conducted in two separate modes i.e. Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode and Online (Computer Based Examination) mode.

The Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examination mode. A candidate will opt for either Pen and Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) only

Eligibility Criteria

Here we are providing the eligibility criteria to appear for JEE Main 2018:

  • Qualifying Exam: Students should have passed the 12th or equivalent exam in 2016 and 2017 with five subjects from any recognized board.
  • Appearing Candidates: Students appearing in the 12th examination in 2018 are also eligible.
  • Subjects: Students must have the Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics subjects in the qualifying exam.
  • Age Limit: Students born on or after 1st October 1993 are eligible to apply (five year relaxation is given for reserved categories.
  • Percentage: There is no minimum marks are needed to appear in the JEE Main exam. For admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, students must have secured 75 % marks (65% for SC/ST) or be in the top 20 percentile.
  • Attempt: Students can appear only three times for JEE Main.
  • Aadhaar Card: All India candidates must have Aadhaar Card to apply for JEE Main.

JEE Main New Changes Introduced Last year:

In 2017, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has introduced some new changes in the pattern of JEE Mains. Here are the highlights:

  • No weightage will be given to 12th class marks for calculating All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main.
  • In order to qualify for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, candidates must have at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in higher secondary examination or must be in top 20 percentile in class 12th examination conducted by respective boards.
  • Moreover, candidates should have Aadhaar Card Number to fill the application form.
  • Candidates from Meghalaya, J & K and Assam are excluded from this provision. Such candidates have to enter passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number to get examination centre in these states only.

 

 

Number of Attempts:

Total 3 attempts will be given for clearing the JEE Main. Attempts will be counted from the year 2017 onwards. JEE Advanced can be attempted maximum 2 times in consecutive years.

Eligibility For Admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs:

Percentage Marks: To be eligible for admission in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, candidates should have obtained 75% marks in 12th examination or must be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th examination of respective boards. The qualifying marks for SC/ST will be 65%.

 

JEE Main 2018 Exam Pattern

Here, we are describing the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2018. It provides details about number of questions, subjects covered, marking scheme, etc. As JEE Main is conducted in two different papers. Check the exam structure separately for both the papers:

For JEE Main Paper-1:

  • Course: Paper-1 is conducted for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses.
  • Exam Mode: The exam mode for paper 1 will be offline (PBT) as well as online (CBT). Candidates can opt any one of the modes as per their suitability.
  • Subjects: The paper-1 will consist of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
  • Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked from each subject with total of 90 questions comprising of 360 marks.
  • Type of Questions: Only objective type questions will be asked in Paper-1.
  • Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi(except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
  • Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: Candidates will be provided with +4 marks for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: In case of wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

For JEE Main Paper-2:

  • Course: Paper-2 is conducted for admission to B.Arch/B.Planning courses.
  • Exam Mode: The exam mode for this paper will be offline (PBT) mode.
  • Number of Questions: 30 questions will be asked in Mathematics (Part-1), 50 questions in aptitude test (Part-2) and 2 questions in drawing comprising of total 390 marks.
  • Type of Questions: The Mathematics and Aptitude test section will contain objective type questions. Drawing test will be subjective.
  • Language: For all exam cities, the question paper medium choice will be English & Hindi(except exam centre cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli where choices for question paper will be English, Hindi and Gujarati). The choice for question paper should be exercised while filling up the application form.
  • Exam Duration: The time duration will be 3 hours.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has notified following two changes in the JEE pattern for 2017:

1.     There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main) examination,

2.     For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination. 

The States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland, Odisha & some other institutions have joined JEE (Main) system, however, their admission criteria will be notified by the concerned authorities. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State level examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main)–2017  application form online. The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

 i) All the Indian citizen candidates should possess AADHAAR card issued by UIDAI. At the time of filling application form of JEE (Main)–2017, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender which will be validated with the UIDAI’s data.  In case, these particulars do not match, the candidates will not be able to fill the application form for JEE (Main)–2017. Therefore, the candidates are advised to ensure that their AADHAAR card has correct details of their name, date of birth & gender as per school records. If there is some mismatch in these details, the candidates should immediately get it corrected in AADHAAR data or school records, as the case may be.

ii) Applicants not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, are hereby required to make application for Aadhaar enrolment in case he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per section 3 of Aadhaar Act.  Such applicant may visit any Aadhaar enrolment center (list available at www.uidai.gov.in) to get enrolled for Aadhaar. 

iii) In order to facilitiate such applicants who are not having Aadhaar, the CBSE has specially set up facilitation centres in each city of examination for the purpose of Aadhaar enrolment. The applicants can approach such facilitation centres who will not charge any amount from any applicant for Aadhaar enrolment. The list of the facilitation centre is available on www.jeemain.nic.in. These applicants who have enrolled for Aadhaar and have not received Aadhaar  should enter 28 digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID printed on the Aadhaar enrolment slip at the time of filling online application form for JEE(Main) 2017. 

iv) In case Aadhaar enrolment facility is not available at the facilitation centres, the applicants should submit a request for Aadhaar enrolment. The facilitation centre will issue a registration number to such applicants. This registration number should be entered by the applicants at the time of filling online application form for JEE(Main) 2017.

v) The above provisions shall be applicable in all states except J&K, Assam & Meghalaya.

vi) The applicants who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya need to enter the passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number provided they should select the city of examination in these states only.

The online application process will start from 01st December, 2016 onwards. The last date for application is 02nd January, 2017 and fee can be paid upto 03rd January 2017.

JEE Main 2016, conducted by CBSE, is the first stage examination for admissions to prestigious IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and ISM (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad. Last year, over 13 lakh candidates appeared for this national level exam for admissions to 31 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs, which are the participating institutes of JEE Main. Top 1.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, which is the second stage of entrance test for admissions to IITs and ISM.

The application form of JEE Main 2016 will be tentatively available from the month of November. Nearly one month time is given to students for submitting the form. The entrance exam will be conducted in April, 2016.

JEE Main 2016 Selection Procedure: Candidates will be given admissionson the basis of All India Ranks calculated with JEE Main 2016 scores and normalized marks of Class XII in the ratio 60:40. JEE Main 2016 Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1991 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2016. However, in case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates, who are born on or after October 01, 1986, are eligible.

  • Only those candidates, who have passed their class 12th exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 or 2016; or those who are appearing in their class 12th exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2016 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2016.

  • Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE Main 2016.

  • The number of attempts, which a candidate can avail at JEE Main 2016, shall be limited to three.

 

JEE Main 2016 Syllabus:

Syllabus of JEE Main provides engineering and architecture aspirants a topic-wise breakup of each section- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Conducting body for JEE Main 2016, CBSE, has not published the detailed syllabus yet. Candidates appearing in this entrance exam can check last year’s syllabus of all subjects to get an idea about this year’s curriculum. Candidates can get subject-wise syllabus in easily downloadable PDF formats.
